Famagusta – Found on the east coast of Cyprus, Famagusta has a rich and varied history. It was originally established as a small fishing village in the 7th Century; and became a popular tourist destination after independence in 1960, and then was bombed by the Turkish Air Force in 1974. The Famagusta of today is in the Turkish North of Cyprus, and has plenty for visitors to see and do, including an amphitheatre, royal tombs and a citadel, known as Othello’s Tower, which contains an impressive gothic hall.
